“FROM GLORY TO GLORY”: The Glory of God in Romans

WORSHIP NOTES
Volume 17, No. 6 (June 2022)

The Fall

For although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. (1:21-23)

Our Fallen State

For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:22b-23)

Our Present Hope

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Our Future Hope

Through [Christ] we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:2)

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (8:16-18)

The creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (8:21)

And those whom He predestined He also called, and those whom He called He also justified, and those whom He justified he also glorified. (8:30)

The Goal of the Church

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (15:6-7)

All Glory to God Forever

For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever! Amen. (11:36)

Now to Him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ . . . to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. (16:25,27)
