FINALLY, BRETHREN . . . (aspirations for our corporate worship from 2 Corinthians 13:11)

WORSHIP NOTES
Volume 21, No. 1 (January 2026)

Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace;
and the God of love and peace will be with you. (2 Corinthians 13:11)

Rejoice . . .

. . . may your worship be full of joy and satisfaction in the greatness and goodness of God.

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13)

Be made complete . . .

. . . may your worship, filled with a rich feeding upon and response to His gracious Word,
nourish you with His lavish grace,
that your growing dependence on Him brings strength out of weakness.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Be comforted . . .

. . . may your worship re-orient you
to your only true and sufficient hope,
and cause you to rest in His supreme providence and purposes.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)

Be like-minded …

. . . may your worship be an expression
of concerted focus on the One for Whom it is,
a determined oneness of intent in the unity of love.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:3-5)

Live in peace . . .

. . . may your worship honor God as harmony of voice and heart
reflects a divinely constituted community.

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:5-7)

. . . and the God of love and peace will be with you!
